I just found out that the Glasgow School of Art was destroyed by fire. This is such sad news for me.
When I worked for a European guidebook company, I wrote up a walking tour centered around bringing people to this amazing art nouveau treasure. It holds a place in my heart.
In the articles I’ve read–for those unfamiliar with this school and masterpiece, someone compared it to seeing “acid thrown on a Rothko” or the Guggenheim destroyed by a flood.
It’s hard to believe it’s entirely gone, and although the school is talking about rebuilding, it’s difficult to imagine how they’ll regain what’s been lost.
